Introduction
This qualification aims to provide expert guidance to learners wishing to gain knowledge and understanding on Electric Vehicle charging equipment installation.
It allows learners to learn, develop and practice the skills required for employment and/or career progression in the Electrotechnology sector.
Course Designed For
This course includes both theoretic and practical content. The course will take a structured approach to ensure that all elements of the of the unit provides the learner with an understanding of Code of Practice for Electric Vehicle Charging Installation. It is understood that people learn in a variety of ways, so the methodology will be varied as below:
- Limited use of PowerPoint presentation
- Constant use of IET Code of Practice for Electric Vehicle Charging Installation text book.
- Use of whiteboard and flip chart to explain work-based scenarios and activities.
- Group work to add interaction and engagement
- Practice papers to prepare for online examination
- Set homework in preparation for next day of the course.
- Practical application will be completed the specified rig.
- Continual assessment of understanding
Course Pre-requisites
- Learners must be 18 years or over.
- This course is intended for practicing electricians, however due to the safety implications of working with electricity and the guided learning hours associated with achieving this qualification, learners should have a Level 3 qualification demonstrating competency associated with working in the electrical industry.
- HSCT will carry out an initial assessment of candidates before commencement of course to identify they have any specific training needs, requirement of additional support and guidance, have already completed any units of the course and that the course is suitable for the potential learner.
Course Content
The course will include the following content:
- Knowledge of key requirement related to electrical vehicle charging equipment including statutory and non-statutory documentation and registration requirements.
- Knowledge of the advantages and disadvantages of different type of electric vehicle charging arrangements and equipment. This will include identification of electric vehicle charging equipment for different modes of charging, identification of range of plugs, socket-outlets and charging connections, identification variations in electric vehicle charging equipment features etc.
- Knowledge of preparation for design and installation of electric vehicle charging equipment. This includes what needs to be assessed prior to installing electric vehicle charging equipment, including earthing and protection against electric shocks etc.
- Preparation for design and installation of electric charging equipment.
- Installing electric vehicle equipment for domestic, commercial, and industrial locations.
- Understanding of the requirement for inspection, testing, commissioning, and handover of electric vehicle charging equipment.
- Carrying out inspection, testing, commissioning, and handover of electric vehicle charging equipment.

Level 3 Award in Electric Vehicle Charging Equipment Installation (2919-01-02)
Refresher Training
Electricians are required to keep updated of amendments to the current BS7671 and to update to the next edition in due course

- Multiple Choice Test; Assignment.
