Introduction

The aim of this course is to assess learners against the national standard in a realistic medium risk environment. This will include;

  • Preparing to work safely
  • Entering and exiting confined spaces safely
  • Preparing and using appropriate respiratory protective equipment
  • Using equipment and tools safely
  • Following procedures
  • Dealing with emergencies

There is also a behavioral emphasis on the learner undertaking the assessment in an efficient and safe manner. The learner will demonstrate sufficient knowledge and understanding of medium risk confined spaces, and will demonstrate the appropriate practical skills, through a mix of practical observation and written assessment.

Course Designed For

This course is designed for entrants entering confined spaces with the following characteristics;

  • Vertical direct unobstructed access with continuous attachment to a man riding hoist or similar mechanical rescue device
  • When is not possible to have persons permanently attached to a safety line
  • Usually it will be a team entry which moves away from the entry point
  • Working without an attached rescue line and includes working away from the point of entry
  • Entry into sewers
  • Entry into utility service subway tunnels
  • Entry into aqueducts
  • Entry it complex wet-wells
  • Entry into silos

This is not an exhaustive list. Many industries have adopted these standards to classify their confined spaces entries.

Learners will obtain certification from HSCT

Registration card can be issued upon request
