Introduction
The aim of this course is to develop learners individual competence on the correct installation, inspection, maintenance and removal of 12A/B installations in line with the NHSS 12 scheme requirements.
Course Designed For
All persons who will be required by their employer to install, remove, maintain and inspect TTM on motorways and or high speed dual carriageways.
Course Pre-requisites
Learners wishing to obtain NHSS 12A/B Operative RTMO status new to the traffic management industry must complete the TTMBC course described in the NHSS 12A/B document.

- Training and Assessment – The programme to achieve the qualification
- Health and Safety at Work – Employer and Employee responsibilities
- Health and Safety Executive – Their role in enforcing the Health and Safety at Work Act
- Risk Assessments & Method Statements – What are they, why have them
- Crossing the carriageway on foot – Introduction to Health and Safety document CIS 53
- Video – Your Life in the Fast Lane
- Documentation – Publications relative to the temporary traffic management industry
- Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions – What is it, how does it relate to the TTM industry
- Chapter 8, The Traffic Signs Manual – Types of works, definitions, safety zones
- Signing and coning requirements – Setting out closures, road markings, marker posts
- Temporary Traffic Management vehicle requirements – Different types of vehicles.
- Checking and loading vehicles – How vehicles should be loaded for easy unloading, who is responsible for the vehicle and it’s load, Gross vehicle weights, Unladen weights.
- Discussion on safe working methods for installation, maintenance and removal of signs and cones – Does not give definite safe systems of work but looks at different issues to be considered when developing a safe system of work.

Course Qualification
Red Trainee CSCS Smart card upon completion of initial training day and is not proof of competence. Blue Skilled Worker smart card will be issued upon completion of written and practical assessments on competence with NHSS 12A/B Operative category added.

- 1 Day training completing 12A/B operative training element.
- 1 Day centre based assessment on Tower Lights, Tespa Banding of Signs, covering of Conflicting Signs & Knowledge Questions
- 3 Live assessments on the installation of lane closures on dual carriageways > 50 MPH & Motorways
