12D M6 is for all Registered Traffic Management operatives (RTMO) as described in sector scheme document 12D who wish to become a Registered Lead Traffic Management Operative.

Course Pre-requisites

The learner must have achieved 12D M1/M2 before undertaking this course.

  • Revision of low speed dual carriageways, convoy working and multiphase signals
  • Risk assessments & method statements
  • Traffic Management – Basic principles
  • Signing, Guarding & Lighting details
  • Site maintenance and legal issues
  • Permanent and temporary signs and roadmarkings – conflicts
  • Action to deal with poor visibility & speeding traffic
  • Footways, pedestrians, Excavations and Guarding details
  • Moving, Mobile & Minor works
  • Pedestrian & Cycle crossings & Cycle tracks
  • Works at junctions & Roundabouts
  • Road Closures
  •  Identifying Traffic Control needs
  • Portable Signals
  • Stop & GoSpeed Control and Speed Limits
  • Unusual situations and techniques – Tramways, Railway level crossings, transition sections, Escort vehiclesVehicle issues

Card issued upon passing written assessment

Refresher Training

5 Years until re-assessment is required
