
Introduction
The aim of this course is to develop learners individual competence on the correct installation, inspection, maintenance, design and supervision of 12B installations in line with the NHSS 12 scheme requirements.
Course Designed For
All persons who will be required by their employer to work on motorways and or high speed dual carriageways as a lead traffic management operative.
Course Pre-requisites
Learners must either be registered with Lantra Awards as a Temporary Traffic Management Operative or as a minimum they must have sat the one day 12A / B Operative course and have started their logbook of assessments. The registration as an LTMO will only become effective provided the logbook of assessments has been completed AND the one day Operative course certificate is still valid.

- Quality Assurance – BS EN ISO 9001 (2008) and Sector Scheme 12.
- Training and Assessment – The programme to achieve the qualification.
- Health and Safety at Work – Employer and Employee responsibilities.
- Health and Safety Executive – Their role in enforcing the Health and Safety at Work Act.
- Risk Assessments & Method Statements – What are they, why have them.
- Crossing the carriageway on foot – Introduction to Health and Safety document CIS 53.
- Documentation – Publications relative to the temporary traffic management industry.
- Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions – What is it, how does it relate to the TTM industry.
- Chapter 8, The Traffic Signs Manual – Types of works, definitions, safety zones.
- Signing and coning requirements – Setting out closures, road markings, marker posts considered when developing a safe system of work.
- Examples and exercises in two lane dual carriageway closures.
- Temporary Traffic Management vehicle requirements – Different types of vehicles.
- Checking and loading vehicles.
- Methods for installation, maintenance and removal of signs and cones.
- Rolling blocks.
- Works on roundabouts.
- Works on hard shoulders.
- Switching of traffic management layouts
- Examples and exercises on three lane dual carriageway / motorway closures.
- End of course test
Course Qualification
NHSS 12A/B RTMO Status is a pre-requisite before a NHSS 12B LTMO card is issued upon successful completion of this course.

Course Assessment
Following completion of the NHSS 12B LTMO training course the learner can obtain full LTMO status (TM card) by completing a set of off site written assessments as prescribed in the Sector Scheme document.
